Insurance belongs in the vehicle conversation
When people shop for a vehicle, the conversation usually starts with price, payment, mileage, fuel economy, or what they need to tow. Those things matter. But the monthly cost of insurance matters too, and it can change the decision between two vehicles that look similar on a lot.
That is why SmartCarMatch now has a direct insurance-help path. If you want to check insurance before buying a car, you can visit our insurance help page and request an introduction to Jordan Sayan, our local insurance partner.
What changed for me
I personally use Jordan for insurance. I recently switched from Progressive, and in my situation the change worked out to approximately $1,000 in savings over a year.
That is my result, not a promise for anybody else. Insurance rates vary substantially based on the driver, vehicle, location, coverage, driving and claims history, insurer, and other rating factors. Jordan cannot promise that another shopper will see the same result, and I would not want to suggest that she can.
The useful part of my experience was not a magic number. It was having a real person look at my situation and help me understand the quote instead of treating insurance as an afterthought after the vehicle decision was already made.
The vehicle can affect the number too
Make, model, year, repair costs, safety equipment, theft experience, and collision-loss history can all affect how an insurer evaluates a vehicle. That does not mean one brand is always cheaper to insure. It means insurance is worth checking against the actual vehicle and the actual driver before you assume the payment tells the whole story.
If you are comparing a GMC Sierra, for example, getting an insurance quote for the specific truck can be more useful than relying on a general brand average. A Sierra 1500, Sierra 2500 HD, and Sierra 3500 HD can represent very different vehicles, uses, values, and insurance questions.
A careful note about GMC and Sierra insurance
Some current insurance-market estimates place GMC around or somewhat below broader averages, depending on the dataset and model. That is a market estimate, not an individual quote and not a reason to assume every GMC will be inexpensive to insure.
Progressive's published analysis of collision-loss experience using IIHS-HLDI data identifies the GMC Sierra 2500 and Sierra 3500 among models that may be less expensive to insure relative to average vehicles based on that loss experience. That is a narrow data point about collision losses. It does not predict the premium for a particular driver, truck, coverage selection, or Michigan address.
The practical takeaway is simple: if insurance cost is part of your decision, ask about the actual vehicle before you buy it.
Why I wanted Jordan involved
Jordan Sayan is an Insurance Advisor with Farmers Insurance in Saginaw. More importantly for SmartCarMatch shoppers, she is a real local person I can introduce when insurance questions become part of the vehicle conversation.
You can ask for a quote before buying, while replacing a vehicle, or when you simply want to compare your current coverage. SmartCarMatch can carry the basic vehicle information into the referral when you start from a vehicle page, so you do not have to type the year, make, model, and trim again.
There is no requirement to use Jordan to shop, buy, finance, reserve, or inquire about a vehicle. This is an optional connection for shoppers who want it.
A better next step than guessing
I do not think insurance should decide every vehicle purchase. I do think it belongs in the conversation early enough to avoid surprises.
If you have a vehicle in mind, or you are still narrowing it down, Jordan can help you get a quote through SmartCarMatch. The result will depend on your situation, which is exactly why a real quote is more useful than a broad internet claim.
